I’m performing at A LOT of company holiday parties this month, but the view from my show on December 10th takes the cake!
I was hired to perform strolling magic during the cocktail hour, followed by my 30-minute after-dinner magic show. After the sun had set, and dinner was over, we lowered the shades and I started my show.
Being a magician in Los Angeles has benefits… :-)

Joe Skilton and James Randi
James Randi, the stage magician who became famous for challenging pseudoscience and false claims of the paranormal was interviewed by world-renouned mentalist Max Maven at the Magic Castle last Monday. His books “Flim Flam” and “The Faith Healers” are an important addition to any library.
It was a wonderful interview (Max is always a great interviewer), filled with great stories from a living legend. I can’t tell ya how much I respect this guy!
Randi discussed how his magic background fueled his early acts of public skepticism. He talked about his exposure of the TV evangelist Peter Popoff on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, and how his response to paranormal claims have changed over the years.
The James Randi Educational Foundation currently offers one million dollars to ANYONE who demonstrate under mutually agreed upon scientific condition the existence of any paranormal or supernatural ability. It’s been offered since 1964 (back then it was just $1,000).
I’d apply for the million dollar prize myself… but I’ve been awfully busy lately ;-).
Flying from Los Angeles to Seattle.
After my weekend magic show and some sightseeing on Sunday, my wife and I caught a 6am back to Los Angeles on Virgin America. I always fly Virgin America and Virgin Atlantic whenever I get the chance, and I wholeheartedly recommend them.
We upgraded to first class so we could sleep on the way home, and it was totally worth it! I LOVE VIRGIN! (end of shameless corporate plug)
Isn’t this photo COOL? I gotta give Sarah credit… she took an incredible shot. My wife rocks.
So here’s a photo me in costume at the commercial shoot. It was a very long day, but the director was terrific and the crew was top-notch. I had a blast… even though I ended the day with a mild sunburn on the back of my neck!
Cups & Balls in Venice
(please ignore the prop glasses and fedora… I’m in character!)
