This footage is amazing!

Channing Pollock was a world-famous magician in 1950′s America and Europe. He did Ed Sullivan, the London Palladium, and performances for Eisenhower and Queen Elizabeth II.

He created moves that magicians are still using today, and his act spawned many imitators. Yes… it’s old footage, but give it a look. Nobody did it better than Channing.

Great view before my show

I’m performing at  A LOT of company holiday parties this month, but the view from my show on December 10th takes the cake!

I was hired to perform strolling magic during the cocktail hour, followed by my 30-minute after-dinner magic show. After the sun had set, and dinner was over, we lowered the shades and I started my show.

Being a magician in Los Angeles has benefits… :-)

My Holiday Party Postcard

My Holiday Party Postcard

It’s December 1st, which means that the holiday party entertainment rush is about to begin!  I’m looking forward to performing at a lot of company parties this month.

This year, I’ve noticed that people are waiting longer before they hire entertainment. Instead of booking a holiday party magician months in advance, some people are calling me for dates that are only a week away.

I’d love to do every show that comes my way, but it just isn’t possible. Unfortunately, I can’t be two places at once! (still working on that trick ;-)

Joe Skilton and Tom Ogden

I’ll be performing 6 shows with Tom Ogden on October 21st and 22nd at the Magic Castle. These will be my final shows at the Castle for 2011.

Tom wrote “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Street Magic” and is a regular performer on Holland America Cruise Lines. His show is very, very funny.

As always, only my magic show clients and those on my Magic Castle Email List are invited. I’m looking forward to seeing old and new faces at the club!

Three Magicians

Kevin Viner, Nathan Gibson & Joe Skilton

Know what I love most about doing large corporate events?
Performing with magicians I respect.

A major pharmaceutical company hired four magicians to entertain 2,500 of their employees at a company event in Anaheim. It was a great night! There was a nightclub, live music on three stages, and gourmet food stations throughout.

The employees had been flown in from all over the country, and the company had spared no expense. Of course, we didn’t get a chance to sample the food & fun… we were working hard doing our best sleight-of-hand magic. They were a very enthusiastic group!

After our performances, I grabbed a late dinner with two of the magicians I’d been working with all night. We had some great conversation, and I hope I get a chance to perform with them again soon.

The Magic Powers ShowThis week I debuted a brand new show at the Magic Castle. It’s called “The Magic Powers Show,” and it’s unlike any other show I’ve seen at the Castle.

The premise is simple… I have a list of magic powers on either side of the stage (teleportation, mind reading, etc.), and I let my audience choose which one’s they’d like to see. Whichever magic power they pick… I do!

The really fun thing about it is that every show is different, depending on what my audience chooses. Every audience will get a unique experience.

It’s a lot of hard work, but it’s also a lot of fun!

Rancho Palos Verdes

"June Gloom" in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA

This June has been my busiest month since December! And when you consider that December is always the busiest month of the year… that’s really saying something.

The above pic comes from a show I did last Saturday. It was a graduation party, and that view is from my client’s backyard, where I did my close-up magic show. I wish my backyard had a view like that!

After the grad party, I was hired to do some strolling magic later that night in El Segundo. It was tough saying goodbye to that view, but I couldn’t be late. It was a 40th birthday party, and I was the surprise entertainment. :-)
